Closing the digital divide
Access to the digital world is now a basic necessity, just like water, food, heat, and shelter. In 2022, we launched a digital inclusion programme aimed at addressing the 1 in 7 young New Zealanders who are digitally excluded.
Being a lessor of large amounts of technology means that we are uniquely placed to help close the digital equity gap and make a life-changing difference to some. This programme enables our large-scale corporate and
government customers to contribute a portion of devices as they come off a Quadrent Green Lease. Quadrent matches the contribution of our Green Lease customers to create a considerable pool of high-spec, high-quality tech devices that can be repurposed and provided to those in our communities who are missing out. Our efforts are focused alongside our clients to enable an empowered future for every young Kiwi in the communities in which they operate.
This is the other side of Quadrent’s model: technology returned by one customer becomes a new starting point for someone who would otherwise miss out.
Quadrent’s digital inclusion programme raised attendance for a class at an Auckland high school from 65% to 85% within two years
Achievement rate for this class at ‘Merit’ or better, improved from 16% to 42%
‘Not Achieved’ rate down from 24% to 14%
How it works
Because we fund large amounts of technology, we are uniquely placed to help close this gap. Through our Quadrent Green Lease, end-of-lease devices are returned to us, securely and centrally, and managed inside an assured sustainability hierarchy. From there, a percentage of suitable A-grade devices are donated to schools where students don’t have ready access.
Organisations fund their technology through a Quadrent Green Lease.
At end of term, devices are securely returned, and data is erased to defence grade.
Up to 20% of suitable devices are refurbished and donated to students in need.
The impact is measured and reported, so you can see the difference you and your fleet is making.

In 2025, a donation of 75 laptops was made to Māngere College through the Spark and Quadrent Green Lease partnership. These devices have helped students who previously had to share with siblings or rely on mobile phones to fully participate in their learning.
The laptops are now a vital part of everyday classroom life. They are used for research, collaboration, and completing assignments. For many students, it’s the first time they’ve had consistent access to the tools they need to keep up and stay engaged at school.
Tangaroa College is a decile one, state coeducational secondary school catering for years 9–13 in Otara, Auckland.
In 2023, 75 high quality, ex-lease laptops were donated by Quadrent, to enable all students across three classrooms to have full-time access to a device during class.
When we donated 75 laptops to Fairfield College through our collaboration with Fonterra and HCLTech, we knew it would make a difference. But hearing from the students themselves, and their Principal, brings that difference to life.

Te Rourou, One Aotearoa Foundation and One New Zealand launched a digital equity programme, Toitū te Toki, which is focused on supporting better educational outcomes for young people.
The programme asks organisations to donate their no-longer-used laptops which will then be refreshed and provided to students in low decile colleges for use during the school year.
The programme kicked off with a trial in two colleges in Invercargill with support from Quadrent.
